Overbased Linear Alkylbenzene Synthetic Ca Sulfonate

MV106A is an overbased synthetic calcium alkylbenzene sulfonate, made from linear alkylbenzene sulfonic acid with a high excess of calcium base. The overbasing is what gives it its metal reserve: the colloidal calcium carbonate neutralises acidic combustion and oxidation products far beyond what the soap itself could handle.

In a formulation it works as the primary detergent in engine oils and as a rust and corrosion inhibitor in industrial oils. It keeps hot metal surfaces clean, holds insoluble material in suspension and protects ferrous parts against acidic attack, which is why it appears in marine and heavy-duty engine oils as well as in hydraulic and turbine oils.

Typical use is at low treat rates alongside a dispersant and a ZDDP antioxidant. The TDS gives the typical TBN, calcium content, viscosity and flash point of the current production; the SDS is supplied with every shipment.
